How Healing Can Help
There are many ways in which healing can be used, either for a particular health issue, or to improve and maintain well-being.
I had a male adult rabbit called Sparky, who had been rescued, he initially seemed in perfect health for the first year or so that I had him, I then noticed that he was having problems using his rear legs, he seemed very weak and deteriorated very quickly in a space of a short time.
The vet carried out several checks on him, and confirmed that he had no feeling in his lower spine and back legs, an x-ray confirmed that there was a large mass on the vertebrae, caused by a tumour. The prognosis wasn’t good, and the vet advised me to have Sparky put to sleep.
I looked into his eyes, and instead of seeing a sickly rabbit in pain; I saw the determination of a rabbit that wasn’t ready to give up just yet. I asked the vet to give me a couple of weeks to do healing on him, and if he got any worse or hadn’t improved in those two weeks, I would take him back, to be put to sleep. I left the veterinary surgery, thinking I was probably as mad as the vet thought I was and with enough painkillers to last me the two weeks.
As soon as I got home, I set Sparky’s hutch up in the kitchen where I could keep a close eye on him, and set to work on sessions of healing, massage and turned my bath into a rabbit hydrotherapy pool. After the first couple of days, there hadn’t been any signs of improvement and Sparky had taken to refusing the pain killing liquid that I had to syringe into his mouth twice a day, this task seemed to stress him more than any of the exercises or healing, so after a few days, I stopped the painkillers.
By this time, I was beginning to wonder if I was doing the right thing for Sparky, or weather I was being selfish making him go through this. I decided that if I didn’t notice any improvement in the next day or so, I would take him back to the vet.
It was during one of the healing sessions, I noticed him twitch one of his back legs, and when I applied some pressure to his foot, he pushed it against my hand. I could hardly believe my eyes. As the days went on, he began to get stronger and could stand on his back legs, although slightly wobbly at first. Before I knew it, the two weeks were up, but by this time, Sparky had started to use his back legs, and began to slowly hop again. I took him back to see the vet, and the vet couldn’t believe it was the same rabbit. Further x-rays were taken, and the tumour had shrunk to less than half it’s size, the vet had no explanation as to the sudden turnaround in Sparky’s health.
Sparky is one of my main reasons for wanting to do animal healing, he proved to me that miracles do happen, not often, but they do happen. Despite the tumour leaving a slight curve in his spine, Sparky went on to father six baby rabbits; he passed away several years later, at a ripe old age.
